Here are NYC things I love:
1. Staten Island Ferry - the poor man's Statue of Liberty sight-seeing yacht.
2. Walking the entirety of 10th St. in Manhattan. A street superior to all others.
3. Eating out.
4. Sitting with my friends at a cafe near a ballet school making fun of the bunheads.
5. Walking out of my workplace.
6. Walking out of my workplace to find that the Olympic torch is being run down Broadway, at that moment, followed by fire trucks and police on horseback, and the neighboring buildings are throwing 80,000 pieces of paper out the window, and everybody is cheering and sort of crying.
7. Finding out the next day it was a pretend parade, filmed so the Olympic committee would see how great it would be to have the Olympics here. A proposition I vehemently oppose.
8. Having a gorgeous young man drinking a chocolate milk on Prince street ask me how to get to Spring street. He wants to drive a pedicab.
9. Knowing he'll make a fortune.
10. Taking a taxi home through the rain at night.
11. Being at a fancy birthday party at the W hotel, where Betty Buckley has gotten up to sing a little number for the Birthday boy, and having her introduce a woman she has always wanted to sing with. Phoebe Snow. 4 feet away from me. Singing with Betty Buckley, and then alone. PHOEBE SNOW.
12. Running into people I know every day.
13. Sitting on my stoop.
14. The George Washington Bridge.
15. The Empire State Building.
16. Katz's Delicatessen.
17. Knowing where I am in relation to every subway stop, eatery, bathroom, and park, all the time.
18. Charlie Ravioli
19. The way limestone buildings turn pink at dusk
20. The zip in the night air sometimes, walking down the street w/ my rmlp.
